CBF SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Several studies have shown that Muslims are somewhat lagging behind in the field of education compared to the other communities. Many capable students, drop out of further education and take menial jobs due to financial difficulties. The CBF attaches much importance to education and the development of capable young muslims to become Professionals in various fields. This, we believe will be a major step towards the upliftment of the Community and moving one small step towards poverty alleviation. Scholarships are awarded to needy and capable students, selected on a transparent selection criteria to pursue GCE A/L and/or University studies.

Currently 75 University students (courses ranging from 3 to 5 years) and 75 GCE-A/L students (2  years) are funded under this scheme. The cost per annum amounts to Rs.3,600,000/-  and the total commitment for 2 to 5 years is Rs. 9.3 million. We can also confirm that the demand is very much higher.

The cost to support a student to continue GCE A/L studies is Rs 18,000 (ca. US$ 160) per annum.

The cost to support a student to continue University studies is Rs 30,000 (ca. US$275) per annum.

If we can sponsor one student (either A/L or University), then, InshaAllah, very soon we could be one of the most educated/professionally qualified communities in Sri Lanka and this will have a very significant impact on poverty alleviation.
